Lost & Damaged Item - Replacement Fees

  • Borrowers are responsible for all loaned materials.
  • Lost or damaged items are the responsibility of the borrower.  The Library charges the replacement value of the lost or damaged item to the borrower's account.  Users may not borrow additional items until all charges are cleared.  Checks or money orders (payable to Hudson County Community College) for the value of the lost or damaged items are to be deposited with the Library's Administrative Assistant.

As a courtesy to patrons, the Libraries send reminder notices when borrowed materials are due. Notices are sent as per the following schedule:

  • Courtesy Notice: 3 days before the item is due.
  • Items Due Notice: 1 day after the item is due.
  • Final Overdue: 14 days after the item is due.
  • Assumed Lost: 90 days after the item is due. If an item is not returned, payment for replacement is expected, and borrowing privileges may be restricted.
