This guide is designed to show you some tools for getting background on your school change topic, finding research articles to help support your proposal, and finding statistics about education at the primary and secondary level. At the end of the guide are some useful pointers to help you with MLA citation format.
Scenario...
You have been hired as an educational consultant for a school. The school wants you to create a proposal for changes you think should be made to improve the learning outcomes of the students. All of your recommendations need to be supported by research and your proposal should contain at least three concrete recommendations for changes.
Start by deciding what kind of school has hired you: for example, K-5, 6-8, 9-12, public, private, charter school. You can make this up, or use as inspiration a school you attended or a school that your child attends. Then, do some research into possible recommendations. Make sure you follow these guidelines for the proposal:
- Include a summary explaining the school's current situation (such as the demographics of students attending, whether it is a public, private, or charter school, etc.)
- State a clear thesis that advances specific recommendations
- Include research from at least 4 articles, 2 of which should come from the class database.
- Document your research in MLA format and include a works cited page.
