Access Online Resources

library reference services

Current HCCC students have full access to our library's online resources, both on-campus and off-campus. HCCC credentials are required for off-campus access.

Here are some quick links for searching information:

  • Library Catalog: find books, ebooks, DVDs, streaming videos, and technical items.
  • eBooks Collection: a list of library databases for electronic books.
  • Journal Finder: find a particular journal, magazine or newspaper.
  • Streaming Videos: a list of library databases for streaming videos.
  • Databases A-Z: a complete list of library subscribed databases, organized alphabetically.
  • Research Guides: librarian curated resource guides for a subject, topic or course.
  • Google Scholar: searches across a wide range of scholarly literature, including articles, books, theses, conference papers, and technical reports. To access full text available through HCCC Library, click “Full-Text @ HCCC Library” in the result page.

Borrow a Reserve Book (Textbook)

Reserve books are available to check out for in Library use only.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our librarians via email librarian@hccc.edu or online chat. We are happy to help!

Current HCCC students may:

  • borrow one Reserve book for 2 hours, in-library use only.
  • renew once for 2 hours, if no outstanding holds or recalls on the material.
  • make scans of the material in a limited amount.
  • keep track of the borrowings via your Koha account.

Location: 

  • Gabert Library- Reserves Desk on the 1st floor of Gabert Library;  
  • North Hudson Library - Library Service Desk on the 3rd floor.

Check Inventory:

  • Check online for the Course Reserves list.
  • Call Gabert Library at (201) 360-4369 or North Hudson Library at (201) 360-4605.

Note:

  • A current HCCC photo I.D. card with the current semester sticker or the current schedule must be presented.
  • Reserve items can be borrowed for 2 hours, in-library use only.
  • Reserve items are due 15 minutes before the library closes.

Borrow Books

Starting August 12, 2020, our libraries begin offering Hold & Pickup of books and DVDs.

Current HCCC students may:

  • borrow books (8 items maximum) for 4 weeks.
  • borrow CDs, DVDs (2 DVDs maximum) for 14 days.
  • renew loans once for 28 days, if no outstanding holds or recalls on the material.
  • keep track of the borrowings via Koha account.

Please note:

  • A current HCCC photo I.D. card with the current semester sticker or the current schedule must be presented.
  • Reserve books can be borrowed for 2 hours, in-library use only.
  • All materials must be returned by the end of the semester.

Borrow Electronics & Devices

A current HCCC student may:

  • borrow 1 laptop computer or iPad (1 maximum)  for up to 4 hours, in-library use only.
  • borrow 1 DVD player or webcam (1 maximum) for 4 hours, in-library use only.
  • borrow 1 audio headset or calculator (1 maximum) for 14 days.
  • renew loans once, if no outstanding holds or recalls on the material.
  • keep track of the borrowings via Koha account.

NoodleTools

Use NoodleTools to generate your works cited or reference pages. Just input your resource information and it will format you citations.Sign in with Office 365 (your HCCC email account). It's free for all HCCC students, faculty and staff.

Textbook Information

Our Libraries have Course Reserves collection that provides onsite access to textbooks and course-related materials for students.

1-on-1 Research Help

Students are welcome to reach out and set up a 1-1 meeting with a librarian for assistance on research needs. Simply fill in the request form via the below link. The meeting will be conducted in-person or via video conferencing.

Computers, Printers, Scanners & more

 

Computers
  • JSQ - 58 PCs and 18 MAC computers. NHC - 30 PCs and 2 MAC computers. 
  • Laptop loan for up to 2 hours, in library use only. First come, first served.
Network
  • Select Student from the available wireless signals on your laptop or mobile device.
  • When prompted, log in with your HCCC username and password.
Charging Station
  • Charging stations for cell phones and tablets are available on each floor of the Libraries.
  • Some study desks are equipped with power outlets that allow for laptop charging. 
Printers
  • Print from a library computer only. 
  • Cost: Free for current HCCC faculty, staff and students.
  • Limit 20 pages per printing job.
Scanners
  • Scanners: 5 in Gabert Library; 4 in NHC.
  • Cost: free to scan to your own USB drive, email or OneDrive.
  • Limit 15 minutes per person.
Headsets
  • Listen to music or reduce noise.
  • Available on each service desk.

Study Spaces

Gabert Library

  • Quiet Study Room  - first floor, near the MakerSpace.
  • Study tables - first and second floor, open area.
  • Soft seating (upholstered chairs) - first and second floor, open area.
  • Private Group Study Rooms - second floor, L219, L221, & L222.
    * Large-screen TV, computer & network in L221 & L222. Conference table that seats 7, projector, computer & network in L219. Additional technology (laptop, webcam & headset) is available upon request at the service desk.
    * Checkout is available to current HCCC students only (must have HCCC ID with current semester’s sticker).
    * Available for groups of two (2) or more OR individual students who is:
    • attending a virtual class during which they have to speak and/or present.
    • being interviewed virtually.
    • taking a remotely proctored exam.
    * Checkout time is available in 30-minute increments, up to 2 hours. No renewals are available.
    * Reservations are available up to 7 days in advance.
    * Spring & Fall Hours:
    • Monday – Friday: 8:00am – 9:00pm
    • Saturday: 10:30am – 5:00pm
    • Sunday: 12:30pm – 5:00pm

Makerspace

The HCCC MakerSpace is a space for you to show your creative side, share interests and ideas with peers, and work on group projects with the provided devices and equipment.

Use of the 3D printers is by appointment. You can choose to:

  • Send us your model by email and pick up a 3D object for free from our Gabert Library.
  • Bring in your model and print on your own. Library staff members will be there to help with the equipment and provide basic technical support.
