Research Consultations

This guide provides an overview of HCCC Libraries' research consultation service.

Filling out the Consultation Form

The form asks the following:

  • Full name
  • Email (only an HCCC affiliated email)
  • Role (student? staff? faculty?)
  • How can we help you?
    • Developing a research topic - Need help choosing a topic or narrowing it down? We can guide you in shaping a clear, focused research question. Please provide us with the assignment so that we can be prepared to help you accomplish that.
    • Finding information - Have your topic but not sure where to look? We’ll show you how to find reliable books, articles, and other sources for your assignment.
    • Evaluating sources – Wondering if a source is credible? We’ll help you determine if your information is trustworthy and relevant.
    • Citing resources – Struggling with citations? We can guide you in formatting references correctly in MLA, APA, or another citation style.
  • Why did you decide to book this appointment?
  • If your professor is requiring you to have a consult, what is their name?
  • What topic are you researching? What is your assignment? (Please refrain from leaving this blank. If you do not have a topic, provide some ideas. Topic or not, please also inform us of the assignment - is it a research paper? a speech? etc.)
