NoodleTools

Get started using NoodleTools, a citation management system that allows you to import your citations from databases and creates bibliographies at the click of a button.

Log-in to NoodleTools

Log-in using the Microsoft 365 icon at the bottom of the sign-in box. Your username and password are the same as your HCCC email. If you are already logged into Microsoft 365, you may not have to sign-in.

Create a New Project

Make a New Project

  1. "New Project" iconSelect “New Project” in the upper right-hand corner 

  2. Fill in the “Create New Project” form: 

    1. Name your project

    2. Select MLA or APA (depending on what your professor wants)

    3. Choose level (we recommend "Advanced" for college-level research as this provides the most types of source options)

  3. Click on your project title to open it

Add Citations to a Project - 1st Method

Direct Export from a Database

  1. In some cases, you can export a citation to a “project” that you have already started and opened in NoodleTools - prior to exporting.  

  2. This option is usually in our subscription databases

  3. After searching and selecting a source, look for or hover over an icon that says “Export” or “Export to NoodleTools.” 

  4. Select “NoodleTools.” 

  5. Go back to your open project and make certain that the citation has been imported.  

  6. You may need to refresh the screen for it appear.     

Add Citations to a Project - 2nd Method

Manually Add a New Source

  1. New Source iconSelect “New Source” in the upper right-hand corner 

  2. Select source type from the pop-up box (screenshot below)

  1. Follow instructions:
    1. Fill out the form
    2. Save icon Click on Save (upper right-hand corner)  
  2. Repeat adding new sources until you are finished
  3. Tip for adding articles:
    1. MLA Style - remember to enter the database name “by hand” or select from the drop-down menu. 
    2. APA Style - doesn’t require the database name, unless it’s a dissertation.  

Create a Bibliography

Create a Works Cited (MLA) or References List (APA)

  1. Export/Print icon to create a BibliographyTo access your “Works Cited” page, click on the “Export/Print” button on top of page  
  2. Select “Export to Word” 
  3. Click “Submit”
  4. “Works Cited” Word document appears in lower left-hand corner – click to open 

Create an Annotated Bibliography

Steps to Add Annotations

  1. When creating each citation, use the text box at the bottom to type in your annotation

  2. If you need to add an annotation after you have added the citation, go to your project and find the source you want to annotate. Click the three dots to the right of the source's citation and click on "Edit." Then scroll down to the "Annotation" box and type in the annotation you wish to appear beneath your source in your Annotated Bibliography
