Resource Sharing Policy

Privileges
Students: 4 requests at one time
Faculty/Staff: 4 requests at one time
Alumni and community members: Not allowed to utilize the service

To those who are extended the privilege, the account must be in good standing. Therefore, no fines, overdues, or missing items should be linked to the patron account.

To those who are not extended the privilege, please see a reference librarian for alternate avenues of finding the item in question.

What type of materials are available to borrow?

  • Books that are not owned by HCCC libraries.
    • If an item is owned by HCCC libraries but it is missing, recalled, or long overdue, an exception can be made.
  • Articles that are not owned by HCCC libraries.

  • Reference material
  • Archives and special collections
  • Course reserves
  • New items
  • Rare material
  • Bulky or fragile items

Anything that has been denied will be communicated to the patron via email.

Fees
There are no fees for utilizing this service.

Turnaround time
Articles may take as little as 24 hours or up to two weeks. Article scans are uploaded to the Article Exchange service in which the patron can then download the article to their device.
Books and other items may take between one to two weeks depending on the lending library. Service disruption may include an incomplete request, holidays, and weekends.

Loan Periods
The loan period for borrowed items varies depending on the lending institution. On average, print items are lent for three to four weeks. Articles are accessible for three weeks or 5 views, whichever comes first. Please download the file beforehand.

Renewals
Renewals are granted based on the discretion on the lending institution. To request a renewal, please fill out the form.

Request Limits
For article requests, only one chapter/10% of the work may be requested. Due to copyright policies, scanning limits can vary based on the institution.

Lending
HCCC will accept requests directly from OCLC or JerseyCat. We do not accept requests made by email or phone. Our materials are lent for four weeks, free of charge. Renewals are granted on a case-by-case basis, provided the item is a. not new and b. free of holds.
