Ticket to Culture: Museum Passes

Below is information about various institutions throughout New York/New Jersey/Pennsylvania that offer free days or discounts. If there is an existing partnership, it will be indicated. For the rest, HCCC Library doesn't have a museum pass partnership with them, so they won't show up in our catalog.

Weekly Free Days

Mondays:

• 9/11 Museum (New  York, NY): Free between 5:30pm-7:30pm

Wednesdays:

• Bronx Zoo (Bronx, NY): Required advanced ticket reservation required for free Wednesday admission.

Fridays:

• Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, NY): Every Friday evening from 5–10 pm, admission to the Museum is free. Includes free access to exhibitions, special programming, views, and more.
• The Morgan Library & Museum (New York, NY): Every Friday evening, 5–7 pm. Reservations are required. Live music begins at 5.

Saturdays:

• The Jewish Museum (New York, NY): Every Saturday and during Jewish holidays, there is free admission. Advance reservations are recommended.

Monthly Free Days

Fridays:

• Japan Society (New York, NY): Free First Fridays, 7-9 pm.

Saturdays:

• Brooklyn Museum (Brooklyn, NY): First Saturdays of February–June, August, and October, 5–11 pm. Advance registration is required.
• Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, NY): Every second Sunday of every month from 5–10 pm, admission to the Museum is free. Includes free access to exhibitions, special programming, views, and more.

New York City

• Guggenheim Museum: Pay-What-You-Wish hours are held on Mondays and Saturdays, 4 pm to 5:30 pm. The suggested contribution is $10, and minimum is $1. Advance reservations are strongly recommended. Pay-What-You-Wish will not be held on Saturday, December 7.
• Brooklyn Museum: By purchasing tickets online or at a kiosk, you agree to pay the full suggested amount. Visit the Admissions Desk to pay what you can.
• National Museum of the American Indian: Entrance to the museum is free; tickets are not required.
• Queens Museum: Reservation is required. Pay as you wish.
• Staten Island Museum: Pay as you wish.
• Children’s Museum of the Arts: Pay as you wish Thursdays 4-6 pm.
• New York Historical Society Museum & Library: Admission is pay-as-you-wish from 5–8 pm on Fridays.
• The Museum of the Moving Image: Free general admission is offered every Thursday, 2:00–6:00 p.m. (no reservations required).

New Jersey

• Meadowlands Museum: Pay as you wish.
• New Jersey Botanical Garden: Admission is always free.

Pennsylvania

• Philadelphia Museum of Art: Pay whatever amount you'd like on the first Sunday of the month (10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.).
• Rodin Museum: Admission to the Rodin Museum is Pay What You Wish; the garden is free year-round.
• Please Touch Museum: First Wedesdays, pay only $2.

New York City

• Museum of Ice Cream: Receive a 10% discount by emailing hello@museumoficecream.com with an ID or .edu email address.
• The Metropolitan Museum of Art: New Jersey and Connecticut students can only buy pay-what-you-wish tickets in person with valid student ID.
• The Museum of Arts and Design: Students receive $7 admission.
• Museum of Modern Art: Full-time students with ID, including international students, receive $17 admission.

Pennsylvania

• Philadelphia Museum of Art: Students with ID receive $14 admission. On Friday nights after 5pm, students receive $7 admission (reservation required).

If you are a student in Jersey City or work in Jersey City, you are eligible for a free Jersey City Free Public Library card. Once acquired, you can take advantage of their museum passes! Please visit their Museum Passes page to find out how to reserve and their policy. They offer the following:

• American Museum of Natural History: Each voucher grants admission for one adult or child to the museum’s permanent collection and a special exhibition or show of the visitor’s choice. A maximum of three vouchers per family per year is allowed. To schedule your visit, please visit https://ticketing.amnh.org/#/tickets, and scroll to the bottom of the page to reserve a ticket as a voucher holder.

  **Patrons need to book their reservations online in advance.

• New York Transit Museum: Each voucher grants admission for 2 adults and up to 4 children to the New York Transit Museum.

• Guggenheim Museum: Each voucher grants free admission for 4 adults and all children under the age of 12.

• Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum: Free general admission for 2 adults and 2 children, Access to the express, Members-Only admission line, discounted guest tickets: $18 adult, $13 child, 10% discount on Family Memberships for library patrons.

If you reside in North Bergen or Guttenberg, you are eligible for a free North Bergen Free Public Library Card. Once acquired, you can take advantage of their museum passes! Please visit their Museum Passes page to find out how to reserve and their policy. They offer the following:

• Guggenheim Museum: Free express admission for up to four adults or students, plus $5 admission for two additional guests. Children under the age of 12 are free. 10% savings at the Guggenheim store.
• Children's Museum of Manhattan: Each pass provides free admission for 4 guests (2 adults + 2 children, or 1 adult + 3 children).
• New York Transit Museum: Each pass admits 2 adults & 4 children (through age 17) plus a code good for $5 off public programs.
• Museum of Modern Art: Each pass admits 5 people.
• New York Historical Society: Each pass admits 2 adults and 4 children under 18.
• Hoboken Historical Museum: Each pass is valid for four (4) people. Discounts on selected Museum gift shop items. Discounts at local merchants.
• Intrepid Museum: Each pass is 2 adults and 2 children (through age 17). Free access to the Intrepid Museum, Space Shuttle Pavilion and Submarine Growler. Also, guest discount $18 for adults, $13 for children and a 10% discount on family memberships.
• Storm King Art Center: The pass admits 2 adults and all children living in the same household.
