Microsoft OneDrive

 

 

Your @live student account or @hccc staff/faculty account gives you access to your very own personal cloud storage, OneDrive from Microsoft, similar to Google Drive, Dropbox, and other cloud storage options. With OneDrive you can store schoolwork and other files without having to carry a flash drive and risk losing it. Your OneDrive is accessible on any device with an internet connection. You can also download the OneDrive app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to access your files via phone and tablet. You can also work on documents using Office 365 online apps which automatically saves to your OneDrive.

Accessing your HCCC OneDrive

In your HCCC Portal, right under Quick Links, click on "MY HCCC EMAIL".

At the top left of your email inbox, click on the squares next to "Outlook".

This will give you a menu that shows your Office 365 apps. Click on OneDrive.

From there you can access your files, upload files, and work on Microsoft Office documents which automatically saves to your OneDrive.

Uploading files

Click on "Upload"

Choose "Files".

Find the file(s) that you need and click open. Your file(s) will be uploaded to your OneDrive.

Using Office apps on OneDrive

Click on "New".

From there you can choose Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, or Forms for Excel to work on a document. All changes you make on the document will automatically save to your OneDrive.

Renaming files

If you want to rename your document to another name, you can by clicking on the "Document" on Word, "Book" on Excel, or "Presentation" on PowerPoint.

Rename your document as needed and press enter when finished.

You can also rename from the file list in OneDrive. Simply right click on the file and click "Rename".

Rename the file and click "Save" when finished.

You can also click the empty circle on the left until it turns into a checkmark.

Then at the top, click "Rename"

Deleting files

To delete a file, simply right click on the file and click "Delete" on the menu.

Or you can click on the file until it turns into a check mark. You can click multiple files as well to delete all at the same time.

Then at the top of the screen click "Delete".

A dialog box will appear to confirm that you want to delete the file. It will be moved to the Recycle Bin for complete deletion.

Click "Delete" to move the file to the Recycle Bin. Click "Cancel" if you do not want to delete the file.

To make a permanent deletion of your files, click "Recycle Bin" to the left of the screen.

Here you will see all your file(s). If you want to make a permanent deletion of the file(s), click "Empty Recycle Bin" at the top.

It will show a dialog box to confirm the permanent deletion.

Click "Yes" to confirm. Otherwise, click "No" if you do not want to permanently delete the files.

You can also choose to delete only certain files permanently from the Recycle Bin. To do that, you can make a checkmark next to the file.

Then click "Delete" at the top of the screen.

You can also right click to delete the file.

A dialog box will appear to confirm the deletion.

Click "Delete" to confirm or "Cancel" if you do not want to delete it.

Restoring a file in Recycle Bin.

If there is a file in the Recycle Bin that you accidentally deleted and you do not want it to be there, you can restore it back to your files.

Simply right click on the file and click "Restore".

Or click on the file until it becomes a checkmark and click "Restore" at the top of the screen.

The file will then be restored back to its original folder.

Downloading a file

To download a file for offline use or for uploading to Canvas, you can right click on the file and click "Download".

You can also click on "Download" at the top after selecting your file(s).

Sharing a file

You can share files with others and have them view and/or edit the file as well. To do so, you can right click on the file and click "Share".

Or you can click on the file and click "Share" at the top of the screen.

Or you can also click on the share symbol to the right of the file name.

Type the email address(es) that you want to share the file to.

This will send the file from your HCCC email.

If you share a file, anyone is able to edit the file, especially through Office Online. You can change the editing settings of the file as well if you do not want anyone editing the file but only to view it.

Click on "Anyone with the link..."

Link settings menu. Who would you like this link to work for? Anyone with the link. People in Hudson County Community College with the link. People with existing access. Specific people.

Click the "Allow editing" checkbox to remove the check mark off and then click "Apply". Afterwards you can send the file to whomever you want to send it to with the new editing setting.
