Using Library Resources in Canvas

This guide details how to use and embed library resources in Canvas so that students can access the content you have chosen.

1. Go to the library website homepage and find the search box tab labeled Google Scholar. NOTE: This is not the same as regular Google, and you must use it starting from the library website to gain access to library resources.

2. Type in the title of the article or key terms.

3. Click on the Search button.

4. Choose a format from the options next to the title of the article you wish to select, and click to view the article. Possible formats include HTML, PDF, and full text offered through the HCCC Libraries databases.

5. If you chose the Full-Text @ HCCC Library option, click "Open content in a new tab" on the right side of the page.

6. Copy the permalink to the article and paste into Canvas. Location of the correct link to the article will depending upon the database provider. Here are some of the most commonly used:

For EBSCO Databases

To share an article from an EBSCO database in Canvas, first click the Permalink button on the right side of the page.

Copy the link from the window that pops up above the article. If you found this article through a database on the HCCC Libraries website (including Google Scholar) and you have already logged in to see the content, the proxy will be included in the URL and you do not have to add it.

For Science Direct

To share an article from Science Direct in Canvas, copy the whole URL from the address bar at the top of the page. If you found this article through a database on the HCCC Libraries website (including Google Scholar) and you have already logged in to see the content, the proxy will be included in the URL and you do not have to add it.

For JSTOR

To share an article from JSTOR in Canvas, copy the URL from the address bar at the top of the page. ONLY COPY what comes before the first question mark. If you found this article through a database on the HCCC Libraries website (including Google Scholar) and you have already logged in to see the content, the proxy will be included in the URL and you do not have to add it.
